The third important duty…

The third important duty of belief is the “Zakat”. For the Muslim religion is the “Zakat” a special duty to pay sort of financial fee or tax which is however closely linked to the spiritual side of the religion itself. This fee is to be paid by every healthy Muslim who is free and has some wealth at his disposal. The Muslim religion’s “Zakat” is meant to support other Muslims who are in need. This pillar of the Muslim religion displays a strongly embedded principal in many religions, namely the eternal search for equality and redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor people. The fee also aims at supporting the local religious community. It is very often discussed and debated how exactly this financial fee is determined in the Muslim religion but the answer is never too easy. Basically there are no strict rules for this which are clear , specific and unambiguous. The rule is that the amount has to be adequate to the wealth of the person who will pay it and has to correspond to their financial position in the community.

Another important duty of belief is the fasting obligation or the so called “Saum”. It is performed by all Muslims without any exception during the month of Ramadan, or the fasting month. The ritual of fasting during the Ramadan comprises no eating, no drinking, no smoking and nearly full abstinence between sunrise and sunset. Generally, the principal of abstinence is required here and a total declining of any pleasures, food and liquids during daytime has to be followed. The fasting can be interrupted after sunset and must start again on the next day’s sunrise. The Muslim religion does not allow for pork meat to be eaten anyway but during the fasting month of Ramadan some Muslims decline to eat any meat at all during the night time when they are allowed to do it.

The fifth and final duty of belief for the Muslim religion is the “Haddsh”. This duty is known as the obligation of each and every strong supporter to visit at least once in his life the holy place of Mecca. Mecca is believed to be the birth place of Mohamed which is the holiest of the holiest for the Muslim religion. The Koran prescribes that this holy trip to Mecca needs to be performed in the last month of the moon. The trip comprises also a seven rotations of the pilgrims around the “Kaaba” – the holy house of the god.

Nowadays, the Muslim religion can be found in nearly every country of the world, however it is also split into many different direction of belief in the different countries. There are no precise numbers of the Muslim religion’s supporters in the different countries. Most of the population percentage who support the Muslim religion is in the Persian bay in countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, the Arab Emirates , etc. All north African countries also have a serious part of their population who support the Muslim religion. In following countries the percentage of the Muslim population is higher than 95%: Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Western Sahara, Yemen.
